Looking for user reviews on the Klene Pipe round bale horse feeder
Dec 31 2011, 1:42 PM EST
Is anyone using this feeder? If so, please leave a review on this page, hoping to find out if they really leave no waste as stated in their video. I have heard they pay for themselves in about two years because of no waste in hay. What are your likes and dislikes about this feeder?

We are on our third year with this bale feeder and are very pleased. We added a metal roof to help keep the bale dry. Does it pay for itself in 2 years? Not for us because we are only feeding two horses and get hay fairly cheap (and the feeder was pretty pricey). It does save waste (not completely) but definitely less. more importantly, because we are only feeding two and it takes them awhile to eat a bale, it keeps the bale dry so it doesn't get moldy. This winter has been a muddy mess but the bale is high and dry in the feeder. It saves labor in the spring because there isn't a huge pile of waste hay like we used to have with the bale ring. The first year I saw very little waste. This year and last, the round bales we got were rolled a little looser, so occasionally, my guys will pull out too much hay thru the bars and start to waste it, but when I see that happening I put the sides back up until they clean up the waste. You don't have that option with a bale ring. Only dislike would be it costs so much, but you get what you pay for. It is very heavy and shouldn't rust apart and get bent up like the cheap rings do. You have to have a decent tractor with a loader be able to put the bales in. We feel it was a worthwhile investment taking everything into consideration.
