Chick's saddlery Net - anyone tried it?

Likes, dislikes?
Looks like it holds a lot, comes in different colours and is cheap!
Any input before I order a couple?

I ordered several and liked them so much, I ordered 10 more! Only took about a week for delivery. These nets hold a lot more hay than the Miller's SMHN, which I also use. They are deeper and more rectangular in shape, without the ring at the bottom that Miller's has so they are easier to load with flakes of hay. I set up a barrel with 4 hooks on the outside so I just insert the hay bag inside, pull the loops over and hook them, place flakes inside, unhook and pull the bag out by the drawstring. Only takes a minute and the bag holds appoximately 25 lbs of grass hay. The drawstring is a little thinner than the Miller's but I threaded a bull snap at the end so it's easy to hang. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Good to know! They're a great deal! Do they hold up as well as the other SMHNs? Do you find this valuable?

I have several of them, as well as some that I bought on ebay made by another company. They hold up very well, so far anyway. Like Shennyandme said, I find them easier to load hay into than the more round ones. I like them very much, and I'm oober picky about my stuff! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I can't say for sure since I've only been using SMHN for a few months. The thing I noticed about Miller's is the drawstring is becoming frayed. Could be because of the way I hang them off the ground and being more round, they tend to spin - the Chick's seems to be more flat and stay in place. The drawstring of the Chick's is longer so I can rest them inside a feeding tub rather than hang it above like with the Miller's. Both brands of actual net seem to be equally tough and the horses love eating out of either.

On the hay net comparison chart on this website, it says that the Chick's net has 2" holes, while the Miller's has 1-9/16". .Are they actually the same size? I cannot go any bigger than Miller's, since I already have to double net those in order to slow my horse down even just a notch... Even doubled, she goes through hay too quickly... Thanks!

I bought six Chicks nets two years ago and have used them constantly since and they are ALL still in great shape!!! One of them, the draw string is starting to fray slightly in one spot but the nets have held up so well. Everyone told me not to order them because they would be cheap but because of money issues i ordered them anyway and am soooo glad I did. I LOVE them! The 2" holes don't bother me as they have been perfect for all my guys. I plan on prdering more soon. Do you find this valuable?

I wish I could do bigger holes, lol. My friend has been insisting that they are the same as the Miller's, but the table says completely different hole sizes, so just wanted to check. Like I said, I even need to double up on the miller's... =P

Yes the holes on the Chicks nets are slightly larger BUT the Miller's, Smith and Dover prices have gone up quite a bit. = (

I suppose if I got some chick's nets, I could just use them as the second layer of a double net, and only use the miller's for single nets... That's an idea I suppose... But are they the same size nets that they could be doubled together? I guess I'm not sure that would work... Thanks! Do you find this valuable?

They are currently on sale for $7. For the Miller's nets, I replaced the string included with the bucket strap and hang it off of hay trees around my property. Do I need more bucket straps for the chicks nets to make them safe? Or if not, how would I hang them onto the hay trees with the included drawstring? Thanks! Do you find this valuable?

I have three of them, I have used them on/off for several months. They have held up with zero problems, and have stood up to a lot of abuse, except once or twice they have gotten the knot that holds the two ends of the drawstring undone and the whole net has come off whatever it is tied to... the string they are made out of is plastic and kind of slippery. I just restrung the drawstring and tied it back together, good as new. The same slipperiness of the string does make it really easy to untie them to refill though so it is a plus to me. I have really small hands, and a touch of arthritis, so hand/finger strength can be a problem for me sometimes. I either wrap them around something (fence post for example) and then tie up the string with the same knot I use for lead ropes... like crochet, make a loop, pull string through far enough to make another loop, repeat until you get to the end and then pull the end through the last loop to lock..... or I tie the string all the way to the end and use the end to hang it from a hook or snap.... depending on where I am putting them. They do slow the horses down, however I also have two very piggy, very determined ponies who eat out of them pretty easily, so I would probably double them for a horse that is "net smart". I'm fine with it though because if I did double them it would make it too hard for some of my other horses. I have not actually tried any of the other nets on the market, so I can't give a fair comparison, but I think they are great. Do you find this valuable?

I know this post of fairly old but I wanted to tell you my experience and how I am returning the 10 nets I bought from Dover and using the $ to get more of the Chicks. I have been happy with the Dover nets in the past although they didn't last that long without fraying. I recently bought a bunch from Dover and a few from Chicks to try them out. Dover has not only increased their price but the net has changed. They said the only thing that changed is there no longer is a ring on the bottom but I found the holes to be no smaller than the Chicks and they frayed badly very quickly. Dover has been nice enough to take back the nets even the ones that have been used which is great because I can order more from Chicks with the $ and I'll be saving $. The Chicks have held up great and they are bigger so hold more hay. Their string is a little smaller than the Dover but most people on this group don't use the string like I do so it doesn't matter for alot of people. Just my 2 cents....I think the net comparision chart should be updated though. Is there someone I should contact direct so she can update the prices? Thanks! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Just wanted to mention that I just bought four more nets from chicks this week, and I noticed that the brand name is actually "Tough-1", this may be helpful to someone. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
