| | This small-mesh hay net is made with thicker rope, so I used a larger shackle bolt through the loops. As we know, the largest shackle bolt that fits into a double-end snap is the 3/8" version, and this is the 1/2" version. So I bought a single-end snap with a one-inch ring on the other end, and simply put the bolt through that end after filling the net. Following more extensive use, I've decided to replace my shackle bolt with a short bucket strap on this net because it is difficult to wend the shackle bolt through the loops of thicker rope. See Teresa's instructions on using a bucket strap on this page. This hay net is smaller than the Miller's version. The Miller's SMHN hangs low enough to touch the concrete/rock base of the Hay Tree. If I were building a Hay Tree for this net, I would put the screw eye lower. However, adding another screw eye to the same post is rough on the hay nets -- the horses fling them around the post, catching an opening of the net on the other screw eye, so using mounting rings at multiple heights didn't work for me. It is surprising how much longer it takes my horses to finish hay from this net, compared to the Miller's. The hole size is the same. But the Miller's measures 3.5 cm from the edge of one knot to the close edge of the next knot. Brandi's measures 3 cm from knot to knot, and it makes a huge difference! Colors are hard to say, it depends on what they have when I go toget it. [My suppliers] get assorted colors and not always the same ones. Leaving the tie string off would be no problem." I heard from Brandi today, and there's some disappointing news for those interested in buying SMHN from her: She hasn't been able to find rope at a reasonable enough price to continue making them. So for now these hay nets are not available as shown.
The good news is that she's now a wiki member! Welcome, Stormieqh. :-) http://paddockparadise.wetpaint.com/account/Stormieqh JoAnn

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT??? Would have been easier than my jerry-rigging of my too-big shacklebolt/too-small clip problem. You're so smart. :)
