Pasture Pal Finally Cracks

There was no going back to the factory after its mission to amuse and feed the Tangled Manes trio. Without so much as a recycling symbol to save it from the landfill, this oft-misunderstood horse feeder toy spun its last spin in the third winter of its useful lifespan.

Cylinder and Base Both Broke

This is just one of four cylinders and three base units
that we have here. We'll continue to use the others as
long as possible. Although it's unfortunate that these
are no longer manufactured, they were not perfect, and
as they go I'm replacing them with "Nose-It!" feeder toys. The Pasture Pal was made with 1.25 cm holes for dispensing pellets. I had enlarged some holes to 4 cm for dispensing ODTB hay cubes. (Alfalfa cubes require a 5 cm hole.)

So what broke it? Stella's not-so-dainty toes, ultimately. As it was mounted on its base unit at ground level, it bore the brunt of three years of her pawing. I think the freezing temps and UV exposure were also contributing factors.
