Fancy's Feeder

Smallest of three feeders. This is the second one 3'x2 1/2' and 1 1/2' deep.

Cheryle's Fish Net Slowdown Feeder 1This is just a recycled box that we turned into a feeder.
My Husband took the bottom off and he then put some mesh on the bottom and then screwed 3 2X6's to the bottom with metal brackets.
Next we put the corner pieces on with one side that hinges open to put the framed netting in and to keep it in.

Bottom of crate with wire mesh. However this mesh has not been holding up so I will be putting a heavier mesh on with a little bit bigger hole. (This mesh is in the first feeder that I posted).

Cheryle's Fish Net Slowdown Feeder 1bFancy eating our of crate with netting in place. You can see how the hinged pieces are open. Once frame is in you can latch them to keep frame from coming out. I can put half of an 80lb bale of hay in here at a time and it will last her two days.

Cheryle's Fish Net Slowdown Feeder 1cHere is the frame. It is made out of 4 1x2's per half with net stapled to one half of the frame.

Net is cut to fit (give room for stretching so cut bigger than you think). Wrap net around the side of the frame and staple to edge at every knot. Hole size is around 1 1/4 in.

The metal brackets reinforce the corners, and then long screws are driven through both halves to sandwich the net between the frames. In this pic the screws are on the back side.

I replace it after they have chewed a hole in the net but I will mend with baling twine to get longer use of the net. It just depends how rough they get with it. I have had the nets last 3 months down to 1 and 1/2 months. I plan to make a second frame with netting installed so when I have to replace one, I have a back-up ready to go. Then I just have to remember to fix the worn one right away so I don't get caught without any! :-)

Great job on this page! And on the feeder, too of course. ;-) http://paddockparadise.wetpaint.com/page/Cheryle%27s+Fish+Net+Feeders
I really like the template you chose for individual pages about specific feeders -- it allows plenty of room for text description and also is easy to scroll down to view all the pictures and videos.

In case you wanted to add more to this page and didn't know, you can also add rows to the table in Easy Edit by right-clicking and choosing "add row."
