I tried to order the small mesh hay nets but they are back ordered until April. I ordered the Roma ones from Tony's Tack. What is the difference between the ones at Smith Bros and the Roma one's? Does one have a larger hole or is there a difference in quality?

I think the Smith Bros. nets are the same as the Dover Saddlery and Millers nets, which I have. Those are the best, in my opinion. They hold up better than the Romas and do not have rings on the top loops.
However, the Romas are also very nice, and are a little bigger than the Millers version. The holes are larger, though. Roma holes are two inches, whereas the Miller/Dover nets have one-and-a-half-inch holes. I think that the Romas are absolutely perfect for introducing a horse to the concept of small-mesh hay nets. And they are a little easier for them to get their hay, so I am happily using one during the below-zero winter season, along with two Millers/Dover nets for my three horses.
If you plan to put the Romas on the ground, you may want to tie an extra knot in the upper loops between the rings and the rest of the net. The picture with the Roma rings sticking up out of a green muck bucket shows those extra knots tied in mine. I use a shackle bolt to close the top, so with all the holes at about 2" and no tie string, I don't see any parts on which the horses could get tangled. ~JoAnn
